Banners, mailers, teasers and what not! The story surrounding India’s most loved CEO is filing up the air fast. Who do you think it could be? Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, renowned contemporary artist Subodh Gupta, legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan or the Business tycoon Gautam Adani. If I was to select, Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka would have been my first and foremost choice as he is an embodiment of persistence, self-belief, determination, knowledge & expertise. Undoubtedly, the excitement is at its peak. All we can do is wait for the big surprise.
Inspiring legions of young minds and professionals, some personalities like Vishal Sikka reflect new-fangled and instrumental concepts and notions in every single step. Vishal Sikka, an Indian American, is the present Chief Executive Officer as well as the Managing Director of Infosys.
As the name suggests, Sikka (meaning “coin” in Hindi), actually brought fortune to the IT company Infosys. Of late, the company was struggling to improve its growth rate and overpower its competitors, like Tata Consultancy Services and Cognizant Technology Solutions. However, with the arrival of Sikka in the senior leadership of Infosys, a rise of 9.1% to $9.5 billion was observed in its revenue in FY16. In addition, Infosys overtook Nasscom with its 13.3% growth in constant currency. Initially appointed to serve a 5-year long tenure, Sikka’s engagement with Infosys as the CEO received an extension of two years recently. Now, Sikka will be serving the role till 2021.
Before being a part of Infosys, Vishal Sikka served as a member of the Executive Board of SAP, a German software giant where he played a significant role in stimulating its development plans and actions. For his pioneering ideas and schemes, he was often described as “an innovator at SAP”.
Here’s, a life lesson derived from Sikka’s experience, “Manifest your life goals, no matter how difficult the path seems to be”. In 2008, he encountered a road mishap in Costa Rica. Though there was no serious damage, Sikka decided to change the course of his life after the accident. He told Hasso Plattner, the founder of SAP, that he wants to step down as he aspires to work on newer technological areas. Knowing his calibre and potential, Plattner did not let him go, instead gave absolute authority to Sikka to intellectually renew SAP. Ergo, SAP got HANA (High Performance Analytic Appliance), one of the SAP’s flagship analytic database platforms.
Also, the initial part of his career trajectory includes some venturesome undertakings in the technology landscape. He had established two start-ups, namely iBrain Software and Bodha.com which dealt with business intelligence and e-commerce systems, respectively. However, later on, iBrain was acquired by PatternRX, while Peregrine Systems took the ownership of Bodha. It is his belief in “believing and seeing” and not in “seeing and believing” that empowers him to tack together all the blocks and bring home the bacon.
Needless to say, Vishal Sikka is one of the most loved CEOs who do not follow a pre-existing path, rather ramp up one as per their aspirations. However, the air is not clear yet. For all the buzz surrounding the CEO, the sneak peak is eagerly awaited.
